The Emergency Assistance Association Greater Philadelphia (the Association) establishment ceremony was held in Philadelphia on July 4. The power of the overseas community in the Philadelphia area has been combined to provide a security net for ROC citizens travelling in the Philadelphia area. The Association is the 73rd such emergency assistance association established worldwide to date. The establishment ceremony was hosted by Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing, who was accompanied by Hans Chang, Deputy Director-General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO New York).
Minister Wu said that more and more Taiwanese are going overseas for travel, study and work. When they need emergency assistance, despite prompt assistance from Taiwan’s representative offices, many cases require members of the overseas community to come together to help out. For this reason, after taking up office, Wu has actively set up emergency assistance associations around the world to provide ROC citizens medical aid and other assistance. It is a safety net for those in need of such emergency assistance when traveling overseas. Wu further expressed his deep appreciation to the overseas compatriots involved in the associations for their enthusiasm and good intentions.
Hans Chang explained that the Association is the second emergency assistance association established in the area, following the establishment of the Emergency Assistance Association New York. It will allow more ROC citizens to be taken care of when they require emergency assistance.
OCAC Commissioner and initiator of the Association James Shieh said that the association will provide insurance, legal, medical, information and other services to those in need.
