The Culture Center of TECRO provides services to the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware. As of the most recent U.S. Census Bureau estimate, the total population of the area is around 18.04 million. Among those districts, Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, has a population of 705,000; Maryland has 6.04million; Virginia has 8.53 million; West Virginia has 1.79 million; and Delaware has 973,000. Meanwhile, according to the Community Survey of the U.S. Census Bureau, the Chinese ethnic population of the Washington metropolitan area is estimated to be 200,000, about 20,000 people in the area are Taiwanese immigrants.
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) leads the various communities of overseas compatriot in the Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1951 and consisted of 30 overseas compatriot communities, CCBA has been adamantly supporting the Republic of China (Taiwan) for decades. In addition, there are around 180 overseas compatriot communities originally coming from Taiwan. There are also 20 Chinese schools in close collaboration with the CCTECRO to promote Taiwan language and culture learning.
