The 9th Kids ‘N Fun Festival in San Francisco
Roy Leu, vice chairman of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), attended the 9th Kids ‘N Fun Festival at the Cupertino Memorial Park by the Northern California Taiwanese Cultural and Sports Association on August 11th. Vice Chairman Leu said that the Kids ‘N Fun Festival is very famous in  Bay Area . The event was held for the first time in 2010. Thanks to the organizers, since then thousands of families of various ethnics have attended. This is an event of international culture with no national boundaries and no language barriers. Thanks to President Andy Guo and his team and volunteers for their continuous efforts to promote Taiwanese culture. Regardless of nationality, age, and gender, through cultural exchanges this promotes mutual understanding and also demonstrates the efforts and contributions of Taiwanese folks in the Bay Area in increasing Taiwan’s visibility. The theme of this year's event is "Dare to Dream", which emphasizes children's creative thinking and imagination. At the same time, it also provides opportunities for children to understand and experience innovation in life. The activities of the day are diverse, with theme area, stage area, food area, international village, children's play area and children's science village. In addition, the stage area hosts performances by Ilan Children's Roots Orchestra, Taipei Irish Tap Dance School, Taoyuan Meihua Elementary School Top Team and Taichung Ho-Ping Elementary School Taiya Dance.

The 34th TCAAT Opening Ceremony
The 34th TCAAT Opening Ceremony The 34th TCAAT (Taiwanese & Chinese American Athletic Tournament of San Francisco Bay)  was held at Cupertino High School on 7/08/2018. There were about 112 different groups in attendance, with over 3000 people participating. OCAC (Overseas Community Affairs Council) Minister Hsin-hsing Wu, Ph.D.; TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco), Director-General Joseph Ma, Chairman of TCAAT Jenny Tan,  California State Assembly Member Kansen Chu, Mayor of Cupertino Darcy Paul, Mayor of Fremont Lily Mei,  Mayor of Saratoga Mary-Lynne Bernald, Santa Clara County Assistant Sheriff Rick Sung, School district council members, Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioners….., approximately 100 VIP’s attended. Minister Wu Hsin-hsing encouraged the participants to do well and wished upon a successful tournament. The ceremony opened with a Santa Clara County Police car, followed by two flags carried by the Scouts and FASCA, one for America, and one for the Republic of China. Following this were the diverse groups that attended, each displaying a special skill. Such as dancing, drumming, Chinese yo-yo’s, and a marching band. There were a multitude of activities during this event. Not only was there  Track and Field, there was also tug of rope, a talent show, a piano playing contest, and an art show. Anyone who came to this festival was guaranteed to have a great time. All participants seemed to have a blast as they played and raced till the end.

The 34th TCAAT Shooting Competition
華運會 Taiwanese & Chinese American Athletic Tournament of San Francisco Bay Area (TCAAT) Shooting Competition was held on 6/24/18 at Los Altos Rod and Gun Club Range. The contest had the participants divided into three groups, men’s, women’s and a co-ed group. Before the competition could begin, each participant would have to go through gun safety training and take a test to ensure the safety of the competition. Director General Joseph Ma also attended this competition and participated along with the others.  After all participants had finished, they then walked to their individual targets and recorded their scores.  The contest ended after a delightful day of friendly competition, with all participants content with their performance. 2018 Training Program for the “FASCA”
The Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in San Francisco (Milpitas) held a Training Program for the  “Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors” from June 13 to 15, 2018. Of the 50 of the 57 applicants were accepted into the program.  Thirty-three were students new to the program and 17 were returning students.  The students completed 26 hours of intensive training in 3 days. The program included many topics, e.g.: leadership training, instruction in self-esteem and honor;  an introduction to the service and affairs of OCAC; a tour of Taiwan culture; instruction in folk fun and exercises; DIY art crafts; traditional gourmet food; instruction in folk and modern dance; spiritual lectures and discussion; discussions of second generation Chinese-American experiences and struggles in the US; instruction in self-defense, discussions about Campus and Public Safety; and balancing the essence of traditions with creative diversity for volunteers.
