People in Houston enjoyed Taiwan Yes Festival
On April 20 the Taiwanese Association of Houston attracted thousands of people to its 6th “Taiwan Yes Festival,” held at the Taiwanese Community Center.   As before, this year’s night market featured traditional Taiwanese cuisine, nightlife, catching goldfish and other children’s hand-on craft booths.   In order to promote Taiwan’s participation in the 72nd World Health Assembly, the culture center of TECO in Houston set up a booth so visitors could sign a petition letter to the US Secretary of Health and Welfare, Alex Azar.  Many compatriots and visitors stopped by the booth and signed the letter.  Director Rita Chen and Deputy Director Jungching Yang of the Culture Center attended the people giving signatures at the booth.

Food Safety Lecture Held in Culture Center Hoston
On the afternoon of March 30th, the Asian Health Education Association held a food safety lecture at the Culture Center of TECO in Houston to discuss the effects of hormones on the human body and help the public to take preventive measures. Since a few food safety incidents occurred in Asia a few years ago, the association began a related lecture series to help local compatriots strengthen their food safety concept. Director General Peter Chen of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston and Director Rita Chen of Culture Center attended the lecture and thanked the association for providing knowledge for the health of overseas compatriots. Rita Chen also introduced the benefits and quality of Taiwan's trusted medical services.  Overseas Compatriot Card holders can get quality health checkups on a self-paid basis when visiting Taiwan.

Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in Houston meeting commission of overseas compatriot affairs
The Overseas Community Affairs Council of the Southern Region in the US will return to Taiwan in May to participate in the “Overseas Community Affairs Committee 2019."  In order to gather the views and suggestions of the overseas community, The Cultural Center of T.E.C.O. in Houston held a meeting on March 23. Commissioner Shuzhen Li, Shihhsun Chang, Chinlan Cheng, Kuangyi Wu, Director General Peter Chen of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Director Yifang Chen and Deputy Director Yang Rongqing of Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in Houston and representatives of various overseas communities attended the event. They exchanged views on the issues of making efforts on winning overseas friendships, nurturing young talents of overseas compatriots, marketing Taiwan through cultural resources, expanding the use of social media to serve overseas compatriots and encouraging overseas compatriots and Taiwan businessmen to invest in Taiwan.  Director Chen responded to various issues of overseas community affairs and presented the official account of the OCACNews on line@.  She encouraged members to invite their friends to joint it and to subscribe to its the YouTube channel.

Taiwan Hotel-Motel Association of Greater Houston Monthly Meeting
On February 27th the Taiwan Hotel-Motel Association of Greater Houston held their monthly meeting and invited the KW Solar Panel Company to introduce products and sponsor meals. Vice director Yingzuo Lin, Economic Division, Director Bingxun Xu of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Director Yifang Chen, Deputy Director Jungching Yang of the Cultural Center of T.E.C.O. in Houston were also invited and greeted the members of the association with a happy lunar new year. Director Chen recommended the "Gangnam Style" Restaurant, which is one of the Overseas Compatriot Card authorized businesses.  She also encouraged members of the association of Greater Houston to get Overseas Compatriot Cards and introduced the benefits and quality of Taiwan's trusted medical services.  Overseas Compatriot Card holders can get health checkups on a self-paid basis when visiting Taiwan.

Houston High School Students Amazed by the Splendor of Taiwan
Houston High School Students Amazed by the Splendor of Taiwan Three high school Chinese class students in Houston experienced the “Splendor of Taiwan” Cultural Tour provided by the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural office in Houston More than 50 students from Awty International School, St. Thomas High School and Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart led by St. Thomas High School Principal Aaron Dominguez and Awty International School Zhang Cihui visited the Culture Center on Feb 14th. The students were warmly welcomed. The event included the Spring Festival custom question and answer, shuttlecock and the bamboo trap dance. Dominguez said” This is the first time to take students to visit the center, it is a great platform for students to experience Taiwanese culture.” He hoped to see more exchange in the future.
