2022 OCAC Distance Learning Program for Mandarin Teachers (For North America)
1The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted many overseas compatriot school teachers' plans to come back to Taiwan for a refresher course. To keep training programs for Mandarin teachers uninterrupted, and increase teachers' digital capability to cope with distance learning, Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) launched "2022 OCAC Distance Learning Program for Mandarin Teachers (For North America)." The program was executed by Chung Yuan Christian University and trained 55 Mandarin teachers from North America. 21 days of intensive training has achieved fruitful results, and all the teachers were ready to apply the precious knowledge learned from Taiwan to their own courses. <br><br> Lin Hong-Ying, Director General, Department of Overseas Compatriot Education Affairs of OCAC, addressed at closing ceremony on July 25th. He congratulated them on their completion of the program, and he also encouraged them to integrate resources on the "HuayuWorld" website (huayuworld.org) into their teaching. Live training sessions of the program would all be recorded, edited, and then uploaded to "HuayuWorld" as asynchronous training videos, which would be opened to all who were interested in Mandarin teaching. <br><br> These teachers benefited a lot from ample courses of the program and expressed their gratitude for the program, such as "Professional lecturers, along with nice and highly efficient assistants, respect!" "Truly appreciate OCAC and Chung Yuan Christian University organizing courses of the program. I've learned a lot." <br><br> In addition to improving the ability of Mandarin teachers to teach online, this event also provided opportunities for Mandarin teachers to communicate and learn from each other.
