Shanghai officials visit Taipei to prepare for twin-city forum
Taipei, Dec. 9 (CNA) Seven Chinese local government officials arrived in Taiwan on Sunday to plan the agenda for the annual Taipei-Shanghai twin city forum that will be held here later in the month.
The officials, including Shanghai Municipal Taiwan Affairs Office Director Li Wenhui and his deputy Li Xiaodong, were greeted on arrival at Taipei Songshan Airport by Yao Ching-yu, head of the Taipei City government's mainland affairs division.
Speaking to reporters, Li Wenhui said that during the three-day visit, the Chinese delegation will mainly be holding discussions with Taipei officials about the agenda for the Dec. 20 twin-city forum.
Li, who is scheduled to meet with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je on Monday, said their discussions will cover "anything" related to the forum.
The Chinese official, however, declined to say whether he planned to meet with Kaohsiung Mayor-elect Han Kuo-yu, whom Ko had said earlier in the day would be invited to attend the twin-city forum in Taipei.
The Shanghai City officials are also scheduled to get a firsthand look at the Taipei City government's efforts in the field of the circular economy, visiting projects related to public housing, environmental protection and market renovation, according to Yao.
Since 2010, the two cities have taken turns hosting the forum. This year it is Taipei's turn to organize the event, which seeks to promote exchanges between people from the two cities.
